Insert banjo plucking here......
"Come listen to a story about a man named Joel, poor military man keepin his family fed, then one day he was............." Ok, the rest of the song is escaping me.
Sometimes I just *sigh* when looking at our little abode. The cement pad is decorated with cheap folding nylon chairs that don't match. The once brown picnic table is now neon green, thanks to a certain chalk artist. Balls, buckets, shovels and trucks litter the grass. Some chunks of wood are scattered hither and yon. A few throw rugs as a pitiful attempt at decorating beauty, along with the mums I bought and successfully killed. My green thumb is still black down here.
There are a few shoes out there. 4 bikes with a pull behind cart, a stroller, a Big Wheel and a red trike adorn the landscape, with a few towels for good measure. A crock pot bubbles with a homemade green salve and fresh herbs are drying on the side....hopefully not alarming a narcotics agent. All that is missing is the dead deer hanging in the tree.
It really does look like the Georgia Hillbillies have put up roots in the campground.
Dakota and I like to watch the incoming campers. They are pulling their fifth wheels with shiny matching trucks. We watch the motorhomes go by and set up beside us. They let out the finely groomed poodles and set up the satellite dishes big enough to contact Mars. Their chairs all match and they have flags or signs announcing their names, hometowns, branch of service or favorite sports team. One push of the button and the whole RV is set up and ready for living.
You might hear us say, "Whoa! That one has 3 axles!" Or "Wowsers, didja see the slide on that thing?" "Look at the matching golf cart!" "I bet that one cost 100 grand!"
It reminds me a bit of how we often live our life, watching the lives of others and judging worth by how it all looks on the outside. I have no idea what is going on inside the RV. We are only given a glimpse of what they want us to see......the beautiful, well manicured perfection.
"For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise." 2 Corinthians 10:12
Inside my RV, you may find laughing, eating, talking, playing, napping, studying, reading, loving, cooking....the stuff of real life.
I am sighing again, but this time it is a *sigh* of contentment. It's my life........and I love it!
see us? We were jumping up and down, flailing our arms, shouting, dancing....I'm sure people thought we were nuts! :) but hey...got to do what you got to do...
