We had the most funny and interesting experience. While walking towards the mall, we heard some music and saw a bonfire at a local park. We decided to walk over and see what was going on. There were ladies in traditional korean costumes..... They started beckoning us over. We just smiled and waved, but stayed put. One lady comes over and grabs Kade and pulls him into the party. So, of course, we had to follow. :) They insisted we eat with them. They kept shoving food at us and babbling in Korean. (Koreans love to share food. It is a special thing to them. To refuse food is utterly rude.) No one could speak English. They were playing a traditional Korean game called Yut-nori, burning old crates to keep warm, and serving food on long tables. Nobody had their own plate, just communal dishes and your own chopsticks. :) They start bringing us rice and cabbage soup. I stuck to the rice to be safe. :) One guy showed us what to dip into what. Koreans take seriously big, huge bites, so they would hand us big bites of food that we could hardly choke down and shove it right into our mouths. :) When we would take it and actually get it down, they would laugh and pat us on the back and give us thumbs up...and cheer. Hilarious! Kade was freaking out. He just stood there, mouth gaping open, staring. The ladies in costume were dancing and beating drums and taking pictures of us. One man walked up to us and he spoke English. He said it was the first full moon after the lunar new year.....so it was a spiritual day. If you did something (didn't catch what he said we were supposed to do) it would bring you luck and fortune. One guy insisted Dakota and Dad join in playing the game. The "town drunk" kept trying to talk to us. He kept patting me and Mom on the shoulder and would walk up and stand 6 inches from us and just look. I think they loved it that these clueless Americans were joining in their fun. No one was under the age of 65. We were laughing so hard we could hardly breathe! LOL :)
Posing. :)...Kade would not look up. :) He was slightly freaked...Oh!!...and guess what?!?! While we were leaving E-mart we saw the english speaking man that was translating for us at the "Lunar party." :) We actually saw someone we knew!!! haha. We barely ever saw people we knew when we lived in little ol' Hahira....much less here in Seoul!!
Of course, he recognized us....it's sort of hard not to remember us.
We had a fun outing........
It's always an adventure when we leave the house. :)
